This is driving me crazy. My tranny dipstick reads as follows: Cold - about 2 to 3 inches above the top of the hot level mark. Warm - after idling for about 5 or 6 minutes; just barely under the minimum of the hot level mark. Hot - about a quarter to a half inch above the max line of the hot mark. Do I add, remove or leave it alone?

Is your truk running?
Level ground?
Same spot every time ?
Shift through all gears pausing between shifts ?
All this everythime you check it
The cold check is estimate only when cold while running

I have noticed when checking mine (hot) that one side of the dipstick often reads an inch higher than the other side. I know the dipstick does not enter the fluid at an angle from having the pan off recently. If I turn the dipstick a half turn and push it back in, the side that was reading high now reads correct and the other side of the dipstick reads way high. It's a clean line on either side. Wiping it off and checking it a few more times seems to get the level the same on both sides of the stick. Baffles me but I can eventually get a reading that I trust is accurate.

Yes to all of the above.
